“Bye bye, First Amendment. Hello, fascism.” – MAGA Madness Weekly (Sep 21, 2025)

So Jimmy Kimmel got cancelled by the state…

The clip above is supposedly the bit that got him cancelled. If you watch it the see if you can spot anything that actually crosses the line (Hint: You won’t find anything).

When the government starts silencing comedians for making jokes about their favourite influencers, you are no longer in democracy, you’ve crossed straight into authoritarian territory.

The Union that represents the musicians on Kimmel: “This is not complicated — this is State censorship, happening in US… a direct attack on free speech… we stand with all those who will be out of work because of government overreach.”…

As has been noted by many there is a core free speech principle – if you believe Free Speech is only for the people you agree with, then you don’t believe in free speech.

Make no mistake, the pulled Kimmil off air because the Trump administration threatened them …

It is not about Kimmel or what he said. It is about the US government forcing a network to fire someone – no government should have that power. If the network decided this on their own, that’s one thing. But in this case they absolutely did not.

Now Sinclair wants a Kirk tribute during the Kimmel time slot on ABC, and is calling on Kimmel to donate to turning point USA …

Some do of course get it …

The Canonization of Saint Kirk

Am I mocking by referring to him as Saint Kirk? Hell yes I am. Am I way off base by doing so? Absolutely not. To illustrate that point here are some offerings I picked up for this week’s collection plate.

Samuel Rodriguez says that “history may one day describe Charlie as one of the closest things Evangelicalism has ever had to a ‘saint.’

  • The Vatican’s official Saint test: curing the sick. The MAGA Kirk Saint test: curing conservatives of low follower counts.
  • If Charlie Kirk’s a saint, does that make his podcast the Book of Revelations (sponsored by MyPillow)?

David Barton declares that Kirk is “America’s first Christian martyr” because it “was purely Christianity that he was killed for.

  • For a guy who claims to know history, it’s a wild claim. Does he think that all all those Puritans, Quakers, missionaries, and, uh, actual martyrs were just cosplayers?
  • By that logic, losing a Twitter argument is basically the Spanish Inquisition.
  • Redefining martyrdom from lions in the Colosseum to ratio’d on social media is… bold.

Lance Wallnau also picked that up and claimed that Charlie Kirk was “the first martyr of the Third Great Awakening.

  • Calling Charlie Kirk the ‘first martyr’ is like calling a karaoke singer the ‘first Beatle.’

We also had Rep. Troy Nehls: “If Charlie Kirk lived in the biblical times, he’d have been the 13th disciple.

  • The 13th disciple? Only if Jesus needed someone to manage the merch table and also sell tickets for the sermon on the mount

Can this descend even further into absurd glorification?

Oh come now, you know these people are fanatical nuts, so of course it does.

This glorification of Charlie Kirk is becoming deeply absurd with this next one. Right-wing pastor Rick Joyner: “Do you know of anyone in their earlier 30s that accomplished as much as that man, except for Jesus?

  • Last week I titled the entire weekly update as “Saint Kirk”, and opened with an observation about him being canonised by Pope Trump. Well hey, here we are. Behold Saint Kirk who famously fed the multitudes … with racist and xenophobic TikTok clips and Facebook rants.
  • Verily I say unto you, no man has ever turned so many bad takes into a career.

The major blame storming going on for the killing of their Saint has been the accusation that “They demonised him“, meaning that you and I called him out for being who he actually was and for saying what he actually said.

Mike Johnson (Yes the speaker of the House): People have got to stop framing simple policy disagreements in terms of existential threats to our democracy. You can’t call the other side fascists and enemies of the state and not understand that there are some deranged people in our society who will take that as cues to act.

  • Reminder: In March of 2024, Mike Johnson personally invited Christian nationalist pastor Jack Hibbs to deliver a prayer to the House of Representatives. When people complained, Hibbs lashed out at his critics, labeling them “literal cancers” who are no different than “those of the Third Reich under Hitler.
  • Rinse and repeat with all the other many many examples of utterly absurd accusations from right across the Reich Wing.

Here is another example. Despite having repeatedly called his political enemies to Nazis and demons, MAGA cultist Lance Wallnau now blames that sort of language for the murder of Charlie Kirk

Meanwhile elevating Kirk undeservedly is now a popular GOP sport.

Glenn Beck declares that “Charlie Kirk was as much a civil rights leader as Martin Luther King”: “[If] there’s a Martin Luther King Boulevard, there should be a Charlie King Boulevard.

  • Would that by any chance be Charlie “We made a huge mistake when we passed the Civil Rights Act in the 1960s.” Kirk.
  • If Charlie Kirk is MLK, then my cat is Einstein.

Ali Alexander calls on Trump to arrest, imprison, and “possibly kill” 500,000 people in response to the murder of Charlie Kirk.

Can it all get any weirder?

You might now be thinking we had hit bottom, but no, we also had this not item.

Self-proclaimed “prophetess” Kat Kerr claims she was taken to Heaven to watch God present Charlie Kirk with a special tunic and a quiver containing “one thousand arrows of light”: “This was part of his reward.

  • If Charlie Kirk’s heavenly reward is cosplay gear, maybe God runs Comic-Con now.
  • Oh and to add to her weirdness, after the above she also claims to have subsequently spotted him enjoying a large ice cream cone.
  • And yes, if you check the comments under the YT clip of her saying all this, you find that many people are indeed stupid enough to buy this rather blatant BS as “Truth”.

Eric Metaxas does not want to be left out of this Kirk love-fest, so he declares that “CHARLIE KIRK IS THE BONHOEFFER OF OUR TIME”: “He was never silent in the face of evil and was therefore as powerful a witness for the faith as anyone could be.”

  • Comparing Kirk to Bonhoeffer is like comparing karaoke to Carnegie Hall — same genre, very different skill.
  • Side note: Metaxas wrote a biography of Bonhoeffer. Evangelicals loved it because it claimed he was one of them. Scholars hated it because the claims within the book were gross distortions and misrepresentations (lies) of who Bonhoeffer really was. Scholars like Clifford Green and Richard Weikart said Metaxas distorted Bonhoeffer’s theology, downplayed his ties to liberal Protestant thought, and reshaped him into a modern American conservative. The core criticism is that Bonhoeffer has been “used” / “co-opted” by Mexaxas for modern ideological or political ends … but hey, guys like this have been using religion in general to that end for many decades now. All of the above Kirk glorification is just that.

Even the GOP House passed a resolution elevating Kirk.

Some on the floor were willing to tell them the truth, but of course they don’t care, truth does not matter …

She says …

We should be clear about who Charlie Kirk was: a man who believed that the Civil Rights Act that granted Black Americans the right to vote was a ‘mistake,’ who after the violent attack on Paul Pelosi claimed that ‘some amazing patriot out there’ should bail out his assailant, and accused Jews of controlling ‘not just the colleges – it’s the nonprofits, it’s the movies, it’s Hollywood, it’s all of it.’ His rhetoric and beliefs were ignorant and sought to disenfranchise millions of Americans – far from ‘working tirelessly to promote unity’ as asserted by the majority in this resolution.

Shall we also toss this into the mix just before we move on …

Multiple layers of Lunacy and utter incompetence

He is suing the NYT …

… and the lawsuit itself is deeply weird. It is not about going to court, nor about money. This is him attempting to completely gag all critics. What is clear is that he will keep doing stuff like this because so many have already caved, paid him off and fired reporters he hates.

The case got tossed by a judge, but it will probably come back.

Well well well, it turns out that Tom Homan, Trump’s border czar, is a crook who is being blackmailed into obeying Trump. Are you in any way surprised by that discovery …

KRISTOF (NYT Sep 20): “Trump claimed no one has died from its cuts to humanitarian aid, wants to cancel $4.9 billion more… Yet here in desperate villages in Uganda not only are aid cuts killing children daily, that death toll is accelerating.” How is this pro-life? www.nytimes.com/2025/09/20/o…

  • Now states are basing their vaccine requirements on what a crack pot claims. Completely free of data and evidence, science and research. All to propagate a lie to the public.

  • If you can’t trust a guy who doesn’t believe that HIV causes AIDS, takes raw milk shooters in the White House, invents references in official reports, and used to grift by selling fluoride water but recently banned fluoride in public water, then who can you trust?

Perpetual reminder that the current Israeli administration is a terrorist organization guilty of war crimes and genocide.

GUARDIAN (Sep 19): “~15 of every 16 Palestinians the Israeli military has killed since its renewed offensive in Gaza began in March have been civilians, data collected by the independent violence-tracking organisation Acled indicates.

Christian Nationalists

The nuttier right-wing religious fanatics within the MAGA cult are as always doing their thing, and so here are a few samples from the past week …

  • William Cook says Kirk’s murder was “a faint illustration of reasons America is facing Divine judgement”: “America will be ‘overthrown’ if we fail to vanquish abortion, sodomy and sexual perversion from our shores.” – – – (It’s wild how people think the fate of a global superpower hinges on what happens in someone else’s bedroom)
  • Mario Murillo proclaims that, in the wake of Kirk’s murder, “it is high time for a total repudiation of the Left—especially the Democratic Party”: “We must weaken them to the point where they lose every election. Why? Because they are no longer a political party. They are deranged radicals. There is no question their rhetoric instilled hatred and murder in thousands of young hearts. And finally, there is Donald Trump. He is the only one out of the last four presidents not beholden to the global elites. That means he has the power to destroy those monstrous pawns of Satan. I pray he does! I pray he does not compromise his destiny! I have asked God to use the assassination of Charlie Kirk to light an unquenchable fire in Trump!” – – – (Asking God to use an assassination as a fundraising pivot for a grifter is a bold faith-based marketing plan).
  • Richard Harris claims that “it can literally be said that the Declaration of Independence was built on the Bible” before insisting that “the proof of this is too extensive for [him] to cover.” – – – (Translation: You know how this works. “Too extensive to cover” actually means “I’m talking complete BS and my proof does not actually exist at all“)
  • While decrying the alleged vilification of conservatives, far-right commentator Jesse Kelly says Democrats are communists and demons who must be snuffed out and purged from the country. – – – (Calling for a purge while complaining about being vilified is peak cognitive discoordination)

Weirdest of the Weird

Right-wing commentators Eric Metaxas and John Zmirak warn that Nick Fuentes is “an actual racist” who is being used by the FBI to discredit the right: “He is a federal agent. He is a set up. He is a honeytrap. He is working for the deep state.

Shane Vaughn says that the right isn’t obligated to be upset about the murder of Democratic lawmaker Melissa Hortman and her husband “because no one knew them.

  • Apparently murder is now just fine as long as you don’t know who the victim is.

  1. This article is absolutely hilarious and disturbing at the same time. The level of absurdity in glorifying Charlie Kirk is mind-blowing, and the hypocrisy is just too much to handle. Love the sarcasm!
