The Scientific Method — Humanity’s Quiet Revolution

The most profound, high-impact discovery humanity has ever made is not a machine, a medicine, or a technology. It is the scientific method.

Its emergence has transformed the world and reshaped the lives of every human on the planet. Our understanding of who we are, how the universe works, and where we came from has been fundamentally revolutionized. The unprecedented flow of information now available to all has altered the human experience in ways no previous generation could have imagined.

Our Demon-Haunted World

And yet, despite these extraordinary advances, we still live in a world saturated with superstition and irrational belief.

Millions continue to place their faith in alternative medicines for which no credible evidence exists, or in supernatural agents that have never been demonstrated to exist at all. Science has illuminated vast regions of reality, but the Enlightenment remains incomplete. We have made remarkable progress — and still have a long way to go.

The Practice of Skepticism

You do not need to be a scientist to stand at the frontier of understanding.

Skepticism is not cynicism. It is simply the application of the scientific method to everyday life. When confronted with extraordinary claims, the skeptic neither accepts nor dismisses them reflexively. Instead, judgment is suspended while evidence is examined, hypotheses are tested, and conclusions are allowed to follow the data.

This process — humble, provisional, and self-correcting — is one of the most reliable tools humanity has ever developed for distinguishing what is wrong from what is not wrong.

When faced with religious dogma, pseudoscience, “woo,” alternative medicine, superstition, or other forms of fuzzy thinking that lead so many to confuse belief with reality, remember this:

Be skeptical.

That, in a nutshell, is what this site is about.

FAQ

1. Who runs this site?

I do.

2. Who pays for the site?

I cover all costs personally. There is no advertising and no commercial relationship with any corporate entity.

3. What is the purpose of the site?

The primary focus is skepticism and science, but I also write about issues and events that interest me, concern me, amuse me, anger me, or enlighten me. This blog reflects my views and opinions. Feel free to disagree — or to be bored or offended.

4. Where does the information come from?

I make every effort to link to original sources for all quoted material and to credit the sites that led me to relevant information whenever possible.

5. What is the basis of the information?

The foundation is evidence-based thinking. On top of that, you will encounter analysis, interpretation, opinion, and — where clearly indicated — speculation.

6. How is information selected?

There is no editor. I select and review all content myself, to the best of my ability. Like most blogs, there is no formal fact-checking beyond this. I rely on readers to point out errors or omissions and to share their own insights. Corrections and thoughtful disagreement are welcome.

7. How current is the information?

All posts are date-stamped. I typically publish a couple of times each week, so the homepage usually reflects current content.

8. How are outbound links chosen?

I never link to sites that request or pay for links — ever. Links are provided solely to sites I believe align with skepticism and critical thinking. This site is a personal project, not a commercial one.

9. What information about visitors is collected?

Commenters are asked for an email address and URL, but this information is not verified. I never sell or share visitor data.

10. Are there topics you will not write about?

Yes. I do not write about the private lives of people around me — ever.

11. What if I believe something is factually incorrect?

If you believe a post or comment contains factual errors, contact me with details: who you are, how to reach you, what your interest is, and what you believe is incorrect. Verified errors will be addressed. Anonymous complaints will be ignored.

12. How are interactions with visitors handled?

Contact option is available in the site banner, and comments are welcome. I do not censor comments, but automated filters are used to block spam. If a legitimate comment is caught in the filter, email me and I will resolve it.
