Every now and then, whenever I’m tempted to consider the idea that nobody could possible be “that” stupid, somebody will of course pop up and prove me ever so wrong.
Today’s offering concerns doctoral candidate Chibuihem Amalaha from Nigeria who has announced that he has successfully disproved homosexuality. This chap is not making the usual religious objections, but has instead used a series of experiments to “prove” that same-sex attraction is not only against the laws of God –– but is against the laws of nature. He also wishes to publish it all in a science journal.
So what is the earth shattering science that he has to offer … (oh you know this is going to be good right) …
[Insert drum roll here] .. remember now, he is a doctoral candidate and has the full backing of his university for this …
..his “groundbreaking” experiments show the north and south poles of two magnets are attracted to each other while same poles repel each other.
er yes, and …
He concludes this “means that man cannot attract another man because they are the same, and a woman should not attract a woman because they are the same. That is how I used physics to prove gay marriage wrong”.
So is it just him that is being insanely stupid? Apparently not …
Amalaha’s “research” has been commended by the University of Lagos, where he is a postgraduate student, and has been told by lecturers he will “win a Nobel prize one day”. The interview with the student was published on Nigerian website This Day Live, where his findings appear to be presented as fact.
While his gross stupidity is not only funny, but also quite frankly depressing, the applause from his university is terrifying.
How can one even begin to respond to this? Perhaps with the observation that my fridge magnets are “making love” to my fridge, so should I be censoring that? Then again I can apply the exact same logic and observe that oil and water don’t mix because they are different, therefore straight marriage is wrong.
Actually thinking about it, this guy would make a great GOP candidate, it looks like he would fit right in.
So did all this really happen?
Yep, here is the original interview with him in a Nigerian paper; the comments after the article are quite entertaining as well and demonstrate that not everybody in Nigeria is stupid.
