I have come across this jaw dropping news … a Catholic conference for a bunch of supposedly highly educated folks to babble on about the “evidence” that the earth is the center of the Universe. (Click here to see the details)
Galileo Was Wrong is a detailed and comprehensive treatment of the scientific evidence supporting Geocentrism, the academic belief that the Earth is immobile in the center of the universe. Garnering scientific information from physics, astrophysics, astronomy and other sciences, Galileo Was Wrong shows that the debate between Galileo and the Catholic Church was much more than a difference of opinion about the interpretation of Scripture.
Scientific evidence available to us within the last 100 years that was not available during Galileo’s confrontation shows that the Church’s position on the immobility of the Earth is not only scientifically supportable, but it is the most stable model of the universe and the one which best answers all the evidence we see in the cosmos.
OK, so somebody is having a joke here, yes? … Oh come on, confess … a few blokes decided to knock this up after a few beers to completely take the piss? It just cannot be true that there really are folks (and I don’t mean anybody), but seriously educated folks, who truly believe that the earth is the center of the Universe.
Alas no, I’m the one who is being naive here. I should stop and consider that already we have a percentage of the US population truly believing that the world is only 6000 years old. We also have millions who gather each Sunday to watch a male virgin dress up in a strange costume, then perform a magical rite that apparently supernaturally transforms a wafer into the actual flesh of a God, so its not a huge leap further to consider the Earth to be the center of the universe.

OK, now lets think about this for a moment, and count up a few items. After all, we do need to consider the entire scientific conversation here.
- Number of credible scientific papers published in proper peer-reviewed journals that support our current understanding either directly or indirectly, (the “Galileo was right” camp) = so many its almost impossible to count them all
- Number of credible scientific papers published in proper peer-reviewed journals that support this Geocentric view either directly or indirectly, (the “Galileo was wrong” camp) = zero.
So you be the judge then, are these folks being scientific, or are they just a bunch of kooks?
It does of course beg the question “Why do so many smart people believe so much nonsense?” Ah but, I’ll blog about that another day.
But then this is so insane, that I do rather hope that I’m being taken for a ride here and a couple of clever folks have successfully cooked up a parody that I fell for hook, line and sinker. If true … please, I beg you, drop a comment and put me out of my misery.
They’ve got a point. There’s two explanations for Michaelson & Morley’s failure to find an aether wind. The establishment says it’s because there isn’t an aether. Daring thinkers like me say it’s because the Earth is the center if the aether universe. I may be prejudiced by all the aether I sniffed in the 60s, but give aether a chance!
