Dr Dre sues Marjorie Taylor Greene and wins

Rep Taylor Greene tweeted a clip and used some Dr. Dre music within it. It was his hit song “Still D.R.E.”. It was her attempt to celebrate Kevin McCarthy’s election as speaker of the US House of Representatives. Naturally she did not ask for permission, she simply stole it.

If Dr. Dre leaned politically to the far right then I guess he would have ignored it. However, since he does not and was pissed about this, he went after her legally.

The Letter

Whoever wrote this clear enjoyed it …

Quote from page 1, third paragraph:

One might expect that, as a member of Congress, you would have a passing familiarity with the laws of our country. It’s possible, though, that laws governing intellectual property are a little too arcane and insufficiently populist for you to have really spent much time on. We’re writing because we think an actual law maker should be making laws not breaking laws …”

Hot damn, that is sweet and truly is the chef’s kiss here.

Legally that third paragraph was not needed. Normally a strict clear statement of facts would be sufficient. However, this was obviously put there because the letter is not just for lawyers to read, but is also for you and me to read and enjoy.

The Action taken was not just that letter

They also reached out to twitter. This is now the tweet …

When it comes to “can’t stop what’s coming” … that tweet did not really work out all that well.

Thoughts

If indeed prominent individuals such as Marjorie Taylor Greene utilise music for political purposes without the permission of the copyright owner then that is theft.

But remember, this is MTG, the well-known promoter of stuff like this …

… there is of course much more. With characters like this it is inevitable because such “thinking” tends to attract more of the same “thinking”.

This is of course MTG, the elected representative who is, to quote Trevor Noah, “your crazy aunt’s even crazier friend” and who has also asserted that the police guarding her in the Capital building are the “gazpacho police”.

Soup?

Well yes, we know what she meant, she is simply so stupid that she even gets her attempts at insults wrong.

Discovering that she simply stole somebody’s music for a tweet is quite frankly small fry when viewed through the lens of who and what she really is. For her reality is a completely undiscovered country.

While I did enjoy the takedown, what is also obvious is that the Qrackhead caucus now rules the roost, and so the next 2 years will be a revenge tour that will see lots of whacky stuff that is not grounded in reality emerge from the house.

The time to be truly afraid is when they actually do need to do something meaningful such as fund the government. A shutdown is perhaps almost inevitable next autumn.
