Cult of Fools Weekly (Apr 7, 2024) – “The Easter Festival Of Lies”

Easter last weekend was transformed for many into a right-wing MAGA festival of very blatant stupidity. This involved the manufacture of completely fictitious outrage to feed the perpetually ready to be offended crowd.

Sit back now and bask in a few samples so that you can proceed to laugh at the depths of raw idiocy that they have committed themselves to.

Here is Hannity, a rather proment voice, promoting the utterly false White House Egg Roll conspiracy on Fox News. His claim is the the Biden White House banned religious themed eggs: “Even religious themed painted eggs. They were strictly prohibited. You can’t make this up. You really can’t. This is simply hostility towards religion.

  • Here is the debunking Via RWW … “NBC News did some truth-telling about these rules, citing the American Egg Board’s confirmation that the same guideline language has been in use for 45 years. So it is utterly dishonest to portray those rules as an attack on faith concocted by the Biden administration.
  • In other words, when Hannity says “you can’t make this up“, then that is exactly what he did. The Trump administration had exactly the same rules, as did many different previous administrations such as the Trump administration. It’s a sponsored event and the sponsor basically strives to keep it fun and totally neutral by eliminating all religious or political themes.

I’m honestly surprised he did not take a hard stance against the very concept.

Think about it.

Eggs are aborted Chicken babies that are then dressed in drag for small kids to be exposed to, so it would not exactly be a shock for the perpetually offended to target the White House egg roll.

The other big bit of weirdness doing the rounds was the assertion that Biden chose Easter Sunday as Transgender Day of Visibility to try and cancel Resurrection Sunday. This one came from numerous sources. Here it is from Musician, Christian nationalist, and fanatical pro-Trump sycophant Sean Feucht …

I’m confident you know this by now, but here is the fact check just for completeness.

Fact Check: Trans Day of Visibility has been on March 31 every single year since 2009, which just happened to also be Easter Sunday this year. I really don’t think that Biden gets the choose when Easter is, nor did he pick March 31 as Trans Day of Visability.

Sean was not a lone voice, there were plenty more examples …

You can feel the Christian “Love” flowing in abundance from this next Pastor …

It continued on and on into the past week.

Ryan Helfenbein admitted that the Biden administration has released a proclamation recognizing Transgender Day of Visibility for the past several year, but he is nevertheless outraged that the administration do so again this year when it fell on Easter, saying that doing so was an intentional “affront to the Christian faith.”

  • Ryan is apparently personally offended that other stuff also happens, and that March 31 was not an exclusive game preserve for his belief

Right-wing pastor John Amanchukwu claimed that Democrats already “took Christmas away from us” and are now trying to destroy Easterdeclaring that Christians cannot vote for “the party that peed on Easter Sunday.”

  • If Trump wins then will he pass an Executive Order proclaiming March 31 to be Easter always and forever? (That would be fun)

Outraged that Easter and Transgender Day of Visibility both occurred on March 31 this year, former Rep. Jody Hice and David Closson of the Family Research Council complain that the left is “trying to colonize the calendar.”

  • colonize the calendar” … now that tickled me.
  • Yep, just a few more who are upset that other stuff happens. Meanwhile the only federally recognised holiday that is actually Christian is Christmas, not Easter.

The “Prophets” also joined in on all the fun.

Self-proclaimed “prophet” Kat Kerr was also claiming that President Joe Biden unilaterally decreed that Easter “will be known as Transgender Visibility Day from this day forward, forever.”

  • forever” … LOL … er no, but you know that her low-information followers will not be checking

Christian nationalist pseudo-historian Tim Barton was outraged by “the perverseness of the administration” for recognizing Transgender Day of Visibility, saying it’s “despicable and evil” especially since they “did not do any kind of proclamation for Easter.”

  • I’m shocked, I tell you, shocked! that a Barton would lie … oh wait, no I’m not.
  • What would have deeply shocked me is if he had actually been truthful.

So let’s also briefly cover off Mr Barton’s lie that there was no White House Easter message.

Yes, the Biden White House that supposedly cancelled Easter put an Easter message out. “Demonic” Biden is perhaps one of the most committed Christians to ever sit in the Oval office. What makes him different is that he does not seek impose his religion upon everybody …

Jill and I send our warmest wishes to Christians around the world celebrating Easter Sunday. Easter reminds us of the power of hope and the promise of Christ’s Resurrection…

Next year, Easter is April 20. Now that will be interesting. Not only is 4/20 slang for cannabis, but 4/20 is also Hitler’s birthday, so who knows how they will handle any of that.

Moving on, below you will once again find my usual selection of some of the other truly bizarre and extreme claims that have popped up during the last 7 days. Each is laced with my snarky commentary.

With my usual hat tip to my various sources, let’s once again dive into this very murky deep pool of absurdity and stupidity.

Christian Nationalism

Evan Kilgore proclaims that “a Christian Theocracy would un-ironically and inevitably help make America a much better place”: “America should 100% be a Christian nation and our laws should honor God’s Word.”

  • better” …. perhaps for him, but for most others … not so much.
  • If it actually happened, just imagine how pissed Evan would be if it turned out to be the wrong flavour of Christianity, one that declared his specific version to be a heresy that merited death by stoning.
  • What these deeply stupid fanatics always fail to grasp is that it is either dominance by one narrow strand of belief and oppression for all others, or freedom for all.

Nobody has any idea what this statement from Pastor Jack Hibbs is supposed to mean: “Man’s politics is the criminalization of God’s government. One is by man and the other is of God.”

Breaching The Johnston Amendment

The Johnson Amendment is a provision in the U.S. tax code, since 1954, that prohibits all 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations such as Churches from endorsing or opposing political candidates.

Omaha-based “prophet” Hank Kunneman is mobilizing his church behind Charlie Kirk’s campaign to pressure Nebraska to change the way it allocates its electoral votes in order to help Trump, claiming the current process “dilutes the voices” of Trump supporters. Kirk will be holding a rally at Kunneman’s church next week.

  • The IRS tends not to enforce the Johnson Amendment … but … this latest example is not in any way fuzzy. It is very clearly a supposed church operating in the political arena.
  • If “Prophet” Hank does indeed wish to operate within this arena, then the ticket price within the IRS tax code is very clear – “Political parties; campaign committees for candidates for federal, state or local office; and political action committees are all political organizations subject to tax under IRC section 527.
  • As for this Kunneman/Kirk initiative, it is not going to happen. As reported by The Hill Apr 4 : Nebraska lawmakers overwhelmingly reject Trump-backed ‘winner-take-all’ electoral system, so their effort is very clearly all about stirring up the crowd to open up their wallets.

The Cult of Trump

MAGA cultist Mary Grace marvels at former President Donald Trump’s apparent ability to understand foreign leaders without the need for a translator: “He’s like an international man who is well versed in so many areas, and has the energy of a 10-year-old.”

  • Meanwhile back in our reality, the truth is that he has the “intellect\maturity of a 10-year-old.” and also the vocabulary to match.
  • Was this perhaps her attempt to punk us all on April 1

Donald Trump Jr. claims that anyone who bought a Bible was reported by their bank to the FBI.

  • Banks really don’t do stuff on a whim. There is no financial regulation that obliges them to conduction any such reporting. You would have to be incredibly stupid to believe this … but hey, Jnr is talking to MAGA supporters so …

MAGA pastor Shane Vaughn finally comes right out and admits it: “I don’t know what happened with [Trump] and Stormy Daniels. I don’t know what happened with him and E. Jean Carroll. He may be guilty of it all and—yes, call me a cult member—I don’t care.”

  • I’m quite happy to fulfil his request – “Shane, you are indeed a cult member
  • As for Shane vigorously supporting a guy who views the Ten Commandments as a To-Do list, that should normally give a Pastor some pause, but in his case that ship sailed many years ago.
  • Perpetual Reminder: Pastor John Shane Vaughn was previously convicted for financial fraud and went to jail for several years, after he found Jesus and not before. Why oh why would a convicted fraudster actually give two hoots about the the orange messiah’s sexual antics?

Christian Eclipse Guidance for next Mon April 8th

April often flags stuff up from the boundless depths of raw stupidity. This week she has found a real gem …

RFK Jnr Fan Club

Ron nails it. RFK Jnr is really not the nice honest guy that Franklin Graham believes him to be …

Even more Weird

Guess it shouldn’t really be a surprise to see North Dakota state Rep. Nico Rios retweet a post praising Tim Pool for saying “its funny that women in nyc are getting punched in the face.

E.W. Jackson declares that “the Democrat Party is the party of modern psychological enslavement of Black Americans just as it was the party of the physical enslavement of Black Americans before the Civil War.

Apparently, circadian rhythms do not apply to Ali Alexander: “I’m a Genius. That’s my rhythm. I am subject to forces well beyond mere sleep. Sleep belongs to me. I don’t belong to my bed.”

  • Known as an organizer of the “stop the steal” rallies that proceeded Jan 6, he appears to be spending his days since then churning out wild weird and totally whacky stuff on a weekly basic in an attempt to be relevant and go viral. The above is simply the latest example. Notable highlights includes his claim to be just like Jesus and also his claim to be a time traveller.

Christian fascist Nick Fuentes says there is nothing wrong with antisemitism and racism, but transgenderism, homosexuality, feminism, usury, contraception, liberalism, and democracy are all sinful and wrong: “If you want to be right with God, you must oppose all this stuff.”

  • Yes, his list of Sinful stuff really does include democracy, and he calls for people to oppose it.

According to MTG the eclipse is a “sign from God” … (and yes, it really was her and not a parody) …

The False Profit$

Evangelist Lance Wallnau says the story of Jonah and the whale is true because a man named James Barkley was swallowed by a whale in 1891 and survived!

Lance Wallnau, yes him again, sees the “silver lining” in the Baltimore bridge collapse, saying that it might be a sign from God about the importance of the 2024 election

  • If we roll with that idea, then yes, its a metaphor for a broken down Trump causing the complete collapse of evangelicalism and also the GOP.
  • But seriously, the idea that a god killed six people just to send a message about an election … er … nope. This is literally Palaeolithic thinking: the idea is that when stuff happens it is because the gods are pleased with us or angry with us and not because some random shit happened.

Did you know that there is a reference to Donald Trump in the fourth stanza of The Star-Spangled Banner? Of course you didn’t, but fortunately “prophet” Johnny Enlow is here to reveal it.

Self-proclaimed “prophetess” Kat Kerr keeps rewriting her prophetic history and is now asserting that former Vice President Mike Pence will not become president, as she repeatedly prophesied, because he failed to adequately support former President Donald Trump’s effort to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

  • Today’s “Being a Prophet” lesson: When your prophecy fails then make sure it is not your failure, but instead is the fault of somebody else.

Finally…

SNL nails it … (well OK, yea, it was the Daily Show) …

Finally, the raw stupidity of this next one just burns …
